²⁶ As they led Him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him to carry it behind Jesus. ²⁷ A large number of people followed Him, including women who mourned and lamented Him. ²⁸ Jesus turned to them, saying, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
